i think the music someone likes says a lot about them. i don't know what my favorite music says about me but maybe you do? check it the freak out: some of my favorite albums. draw whatever conclusions you will from this
The Hush Sound - "Like Vines" (2006)
probably #1 album that i really disliked at first but over the course of like 2 years came around to loving nearly every track on it. pleaseee listen to like vines (2006) and then listen again cause it'll grow on you. you know... like vines.....
highlights:
- sweet tangerine
- we intertwined
- don't wake me up
The Vincent Black Shadow - "Fears In The Water" (2006)
album that defined summer 2021 for me tbh. spotify calls tvbs's style as a "spirited gumbo of pop, punk, metal, and ska" which feels pretty apt i think. this album & el monstruo landed me in the top 0.005% of listeners in 2022, which is crazy?
highlights:
- this road is going nowhere
- letters to no one
- valentine
The Strokes - "Comedown Machine" (2013)
apparently this is considered to be one of their worst albums by a lot of people?!!? i really wasn't expecting that. comedown machine has some of the most "songs that easily get stuck in my head" ever, definitely my #1 album listened to in 2023 i think.
highlights:
- partners in crime
- welcome to japan
- slow animals
Two Door Cinema Club - "Beacon" (2012)
it's a tough choice between beacon and tourist history for favorite tdcc album, but i think beacon's highs are higher (even if its lows are lower). also wake up was the first tdcc song i ever heard so it's got a special place in my heart. i love you beacon <3
highlights:
- handshake
- wake up
- beacon
I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME - "RAZZMATAZZ" (2020)
imagine your favorite band has, like, one (1) EP and a couple assorted singles, and that's all you get to listen to for years, and then they drop an album RIGHT in the middle of peak covid times. GAME CHANGER for a lonely college freshman.
highlights:
- razzmatazz
- leave me alone
- mad iqs
MGMT - "Oracular Spectacular" (2007)
classic album with running themes of nostalgia & loss of youth. surely this will not affect a person like me :P? there's plenty of arguments about the sincerity of the songs on this album but i kind of don't care about all that.
highlights:
- kids
- of moons, birds & monsters
- the handshake
The Vincent Black Shadow - "El Monstruo" (2008)
el monstruo feels a little less bombastic or hard-hitting compared to fears, but still a great album. plus there's a song about the enigma of amigara fault. what's not to love?
highlights:
- stupid intruders
- el monstruo
- the last few minutes
I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME - "GLOOM DIVISION" (2024)
imagine waiting over three years for your favorite band to release new music & when it finally happens it's an album you instantly love from first hear (which is over shitty speakers in a loud store). and then you spend a week straight relistening to it. AND it has the official cover of a letter that you've been waiting for for LITERALLY LIKE FIVE YEARS. <3 <3 <3
highlights:
- SATANIC PANIC
- DOWNSIDE
- WHAT LOVE?
x - "x" (x)
